I suspect it's NOT so unbearable that it's spoiling the whole relationship - he's just mentioning it for laughs. Synthos said it best, "The things we do for love." Sounds like he's resigned to just living with it. It's just endearing.
My ex-girlfriend used to complain about my snoring, and I would complain about how I couldn't sleep because her leg always twitched at night kicking me in the process. Now we are separated on opposite coasts of the US but still talk. And we both confess that we miss those little annoyances about each other.

If he really loves her he'd miss her "awful" singing if they ever broke up (heaven forbid).

Then again.... if it's really, really bad.... hmm.... tough one....
Its definately not spoiling the whole relationship, athough its definately painfull.

Not a terrible idea. If she starts singing slap her across the face hard and if she begins to cry slap her again but with your backhand across the eyes to tell her you mean buissness.

On a serious note just be honest.

My husband whistles like R2D2. He also snores like a lumberjack. And he's got the leg twitching-waking me up thing going on. We sleep in separate rooms now.

To be fair, I grind my teeth in my sleep. I am also a master at pointing out the obvious, which drives him insane. (Him: cutting wood and then swearing and holding finger. Me: "Cut yourself, huh?") Oh, and I can't drive worth a s#!t, although he claims it's because I'm a woman.

A solution - have a baby. The screaming for milk or "i pooped my nappy" should drown out her singing and give her a taste of her own medicine. tee hee

Start singing badly yourself, and wait for her to make a comment.. then you can counter it with one about her singing.

Hahah.. now thats allot of sacrificing
You can make your relationship work if you want, the pluses are always better then the minuses..

To be fair i do break out into random impressions.. I have since i was a kid. Sometimes i get it so dead on that people just break out laughing before i realise that i even made an impression. Sometimes it can get annoying I suppose ;P My favorite is doing the post lady that says "its like a mouthfull of joooy!" hahaha.. For some reason im best at doing black middleaged women..

Or you can develop your own nasty habit - like humming to yourself at moments of intimacy and claiming you weren't aware. Then you have something to bargain with....

Don't be too snippy or spiteful, that can only end badly.

For starters, try having her perform some karaoke, and record her, then play it back. Your voice doesn't sound quite the same from your own perspective, but people are often displeased with their 'beautiful' voices when they hear them played back.

[Edit; The important part here is to have HER come to the realization herself.]

However, once again, DON'T BE [RUDE] ABOUT IT. Be supportive.

There're many different types of singing in the world, and whatever she's doing right now might not be that compatible with her voice. Try helping her find alternatives that fit her voice range and style. Anyone with enough practice can generally produce halfway decent music, but as its said, the right tool for the right job. You don't take a hammer in order to saw wood, and that may be what she's trying.

>>>I can not stress enough the importance of being supportive, and making constructive criticism.<<<

Yeah I never even considered the possibility she might be a Tuvan throat-singer ....

Be nice

She might have the right kind of voice for haunting Enka or romantic Country singing, for all we know. o_O

A pop-singer I am not, definitely, but I can still sing.

Voice teachers will remind people who are dejected again and again, "Anyone can sing with enough practice" to build confidence, and to ensure continued patronage, but that doesn't mean it isn't true.

Maybe you can't sing the kinds of songs you dreamed of going onstage to perform, but the odds are, there's a genre out there appropriate for your voice range, and a little control will set you down the path.

Feed her hot lipton tea with thistles ground up in it. I assure you, in 4-6 hours, her desire to sing will be replaced with a desire to speak.

If I was the one... I would test her determination... Perhaps giving a heavier schedules...

If she truly love what she is doing... I will support her.

You never know... she might be testing you as well.

I write much longer posts about tolerance when I'm serious, so yeah. The throat-singing bit gave it away. o_O
Somehow I don't think that would be on the list of someone going out of their way to be intentionally cruel.

Anyway, there's so much more that could be said that's hard to put into words. Really, what I had been meaning and failed miserably to express in the other 2 posts is that being in a relationship means a lot of compromise and being supportive, and sometimes, figuring out what a reasonable compromise would be is hard for people.

There're times when you just want to strangle someone for getting on your nerves, and the only options seem to be to stomach it until you can do so no longer and strangle them, or insult them. The Lord knows, there're plenty of times where I've wanted to just forever silence someone -_- (Not to be confused with murder O_o

I don't want anyone to have to make a silly, easily avoidable mistake, that a little forewarning could save them from. And of course, if it happens to go horribly, horribly wrong, it was because of the alignment of the planets >_> Not bad advice from me. That could never be the case <_<
